Carrie Coon had a candid discussion on ageing and how it affects the roles she plays in Hollywood.

The 44-year-old actress revealed that more often than not she plays characters much older than her age because she doesn’t get cosmetic surgeries done.

The Gilded Age star confessed that she feels like she gets typecast as older and “complex” characters, in an interview with Glamour magazine on Monday, June 23.

“We all have a way we present in the world. The perception of me is that I am verbal, intellectual. My voice is lower and I don’t have Botox, so I tend to play older than I am. And so I’ve always had a gravitas or some authority,” Coon shared.

Even though Coon has built a reputation for herself by playing roles like Bertha Russell in The Gilded Age and recently, corporate lawyer Laurie on The White Lotus season 3, she revealed that her characters don’t resemble her at all.

“To my family, I am just a goofball,” she said. “It’s surprising when they see the sort of goofier, sillier side of me on camera, which very rarely comes out in the roles I play. It sounds like I protest too much, but I’m easygoing. I’m very lighthearted.”

Coon continued, “I’m very silly. I’m a very silly mom,” referring to her two children, whom she shares with husband Tracy Letts.
